HISTORY

In 1966, Lillian Erotida Gaskill, then choir director at Covenant
Presbyterian Church in Woodbridge, Virginia, contacted other churches in
Eastern Prince William County, and suggested that a community choir be
assembled to provide a Christmas concert free to the public. The first
concert was presented that year. Erotida did not realize then that her idea
would grow, as it has, into the dynamic group we have today and that
almost 50 years later we would still be providing free concerts to the
public. Until 1985, the Woodbridge Community Choir presented only
Christmas concerts on the first Friday and Saturday in December
rehearsing weekly on Monday evenings at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
In 1985, we expanded our season to include a Spring program. We have
continued to present a concert on the first Friday and Saturday in May.
The Woodbridge Community Choir is an entirely volunteer organization
with members from all walks of life. No audition is required to join. The
only requirement is that you love to sing. We are proud to include many
professional and amateur musicians, both choral and instrumental, in our
membership. Most of our members live in Prince William County, some
commute from Stafford and Fairfax Counties, and we have even had a few
from as far away as Fredericksburg, Richmond, and Charlottesville. The
musical directors, accompanists, and soloists are also volunteers and
have included some of the area’s leading musicians.
